It's not completely horrible. In terms of adding vocabulary and pronunciation it's actually been really, really good. But as soon as I moved out of the basics, it became clear pretty quickly that I was hosed as far as grammar and sentence construction went if I ever wanted to say anything other than the specific phrases I was parroting. Adding in supplemental grammar studies is helping now.
I'm hoping the amount of spanish language tv and spanish dubbed tv I'm watching right now will help with the opaqueness. I think part of the issue of studying any language is that what you hear/learn in formal context is horribly difficult to translate to everyday/informal usage. The way people naturally shorten things, use slang, and speak informally is a nightmare.
