I have spent my day watching Band of Brothers and am about halfway through. Let us just get this out of the way immediately, Damian Lewis how are you even real? He is officially now on my list of actors I would watch in anything they do, ever. I think he was already there, but I was waiting for a third example to give it an official stamp.
Anyway, yes, Band of Brothers. I am...not disappointed? More like, it's not quite what I was expecting. I think I thought it was more character based and less...long stretches of battle interrupted by character stuff. I see why it's got such a good reputation, but the relentless battle stuff is not really my thing.
There's a lot that I do like and I'm definitely going to finish it. Also, my fannish history demands I witness first hand why you should not fight in the snow. Seriously, I hit the end of the latest episode and realized what was coming and...well, squee is probably inappropriate? But I was like aha, fighting in the snow at last!
In conclusion, Damian motherfucking Lewis, holy shit dude.

There's one thing in DL's back catalog that I have to warn you about: Dreamcatcher. It has a fantastic cast (Lewis, Olyphant, Wahlberg, Freeman, and others) and good director, but... holy mother of pearl, it's atrocious. And, for me, not in an entertaining way, in a OMG, that's 2 hours of my life I can never have back way. Unless toilet/scat humor is your thing, then have at it.
