Okay, gonna try to get back into the swing of posting again, even if it's really short just to get back in the habit. Very short reviews of stuff I got around to watching yesterday.

Person of Interest is back. YAY. I enjoyed that a lot from a season/future plot set up perspective. I also enjoyed having both my Reese ships handed to me on a silver platter with a bow on top.

Sleepy Hollow is ridiculously fun, OMG. Right out of the gate it has me making little flappy hands of squee in so many ways. I think it probably would not work half as well if the leads were not both individually charming as hell and had amazing sparky chemistry off each other (I'm not sure yet if I ship it or just friendship it but either way they are delightful together). Definitely a show I intend to keep watching and possibly/probably get fannish like about.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I am hoping that was a case of massive pilotitis, because. I didn't hate it, I will keep giving it time to find it's feet. But, yeah, I felt kind of let down by it.

I'm so glad you're enjoying Sleepy Hollow, too! YAY! I fell for it immediately -- with something very close to the wow, they leeched that right out of my brain reaction I had to SPN. Unfortunately for me, a lot of fans' reactions are giving me SPN flashbacks, in the worst possible ways. :P

Haven't watched S.H.I.E.L.D. yet. It's gotten mixed reviews, for sure.

Yes on POI. The premiere ep was a lot of set up for what I assume will be the season arcs, and I am on the edge of my seat for it. I love all their faces and this show, OMG.

I'm so out of step with fandom these days I don't really know what the reactions were externally to Sleepy Hollow, just that it pleased me greatly :D :D :D

You're better off being out of step right now. I'll just say, after the pilot, most reaction posts upset me WAY too much, and in ways I found particularly galling, so now I avoid them. I felt it was safe to read yours, though, knowing that you tend to genuinely and unashamedly love things. And I've never appreciated that more! :D

My appreciation is most definitely of the OMG SQUEE variety.

I'm definitely suffering from nitpick and ridicule fatigue, so squee is a huge relief.

I'm loving Sleepy Hollow, too. It's not deep or meaningful, but the leads are engaging, and I am cheap for cheesy apocalyptic/occult stories.

The cast in Agents of SHIELD (I'm sorry, I refuse to use that many periods) hasn't quite jelled for me yet, but I'm chalking that up to pilots rarely being quite right. Mostly, it feels to me like what Torchwood: Miracle Day wanted to be but wasn't because, well, it was Torchwood, and also because MD was utter shit.

Hee, yes! The setup is just flat out fun and I can barely get over how charismatic the leads are, both together and separately. A lot of times it takes me a little bit to really fall in love with characters, but within ten minutes both of them had me going YES, YOU.

*nodnod* I really want to love SHIELD and there are enough elements to keep me going until it settles in. I didn't have a negative reaction to it so much as a 'meh' one, and part of that is that I think I was going in with too high expectations.

I don't know whether it will get better, but given that SHIELD basically deferred everything about the main characters except some teasing at back story (for three out of the six) in favor of a guest character, I think everything will deliver down the line, and they were just trying to set up mysteries without doing an expo dump. Even if it made for a weak pilot.

If I gave up on every series that had a weak pilot there is very few shows I ever would have ended up watching, including some of my favorites. I am down for the premise and there's enough in there that I'm willing to roll with it for awhile until it either finds it's feet (or doesn't). I think a lot of it suffered from high expectations on my part, I was expecting to be WOWED so when I got 'okayish' I was more disappointed than I ordinarily would be with a pilot.

I totally hear you re: Agents of SHIELD; it didn't wow me. On the other hand, when I think about how MUCH the pilot has to try to do -- situate the show within existing canon, introduce a lot of characters both major and supporting, establish the parameters for lab-made superheroes, etc. -- I think it makes sense that a lot of the ep felt like "Watch us put all the chess pieces on the board!" It's the problem of trying to set up a show that is complex right out of the box. By contrast, shows that are focused on one or two characters, or shows that start relatively low-stakes and accumulate meaning over time, don't require the pilot to do nearly as much work.

So I remain hopeful. :D

I remain hopeful with you! And it did have a lot of heavy lifting to do as far as pilots go. I can't see me not giving it out at least this whole season.
