Dear Festividder
Dear Festividder,
OMG, it is that time of year again! And here you are, which means you want to make a vid for me, which immediately makes you my favorite person in the world! Festividder, you should know that I am so easy that even if you end up filming yourself doing an abstract interpretive dance of any of these sources using the soundtrack from your 5 year old nephew's piano recital? I'd be like, 'Wow! I am impressed by how bendy Festividder is, and I cannot get over how well a plinky version of Jingle Bells works for this!'. So follow your bliss, wherever it may lead you, and come festivid morning I will be yours. If you'd like a little more insight into why I chose the sources I did for this most excellent of holidays, read on!
In no particular order:
Never Been Kissed. One of my all time favorite romantic comedies. I'm pretty sure Drew Barrymore doesn't get any more adorable than she is here (well, as an adult. It's pretty hard to beat out baby Drew in adorableface). Everything about this movie makes me happy, and I sincerely hope there never comes a day in my life where I can watch that scene at the end where she's waiting on the pitchers mound and it looks like he's not there but then he really is and runs out and kisses her without making high pitched squeaky noises and falling off the couch. Adorkably nerdy girl gets the hot english teacher! Do I need more than that in my life? I really do not.
Emergency! Festividder, I literally do not remember a time in my life when this was not on the television, up to the point they stopped rerunning it all the time. I even remember some of the later episodes in first run, because it was appointment television for my family (on our little black and white set because my dad was a grad student at the time and now I'm remembering sitting in the little student apartment we lived in and the nostalgia it is OVERWHELMING). Whatever you do with this, you will be reaching straight into my 5 year old heart and hugging it.
The Last Starfighter. Festividder, let me tell you a story. Of course I adored this movie when it came out. Cheesy 80's sci-fi was like my pre-teen crack, okay. But there's a lot of cheesy 80's sci-fi out there, and it may have joined a long list of such things that just make me go 'awww, I remember that' as opposed to OMFG THE LAST STARFIGHTER. But an amazing thing happened, festividder. For reasons that are still unclear to me, it became one of my mother's favorite movies of all time (also on that list is Air Bud, and both these things explain so much about me). This meant it was one of the few movies we honest to god owned on VHS, watched into oblivion repeatedly. If you wanted a popcorn and movie night in my house the phrase 'Hey mom! Want to watch The Last Starfighter?' was your golden ticket. Which leads me to my one and only specific request regarding a vid for this. If you would be so very kind as to make the credits 'for eunice and her mom' as opposed to just 'for eunice' that would rock so hard.
Indiana Jones. Damn right, I'm rocking the nostalgia so hard this year. I saw Raiders at the drive-in double feature and was sold for life. Granted, it wasn't exactly a hard sell, because my deep and abiding love for Harrison Ford is rooted in an even earlier childhood experience in which I imprinted on Han Solo like a baby duckling. And then followed Harrison Ford wherever he chose to go, which thankfully hasn't gone wrong very often. Basically what I am saying is, will Harrison Ford be in this vid? Yes? GOLDEN.
Wizards of Waverly Place. So you know how if you baby sit your young niece and nephew often, you end up watching a looooot of Disney Channel? And then sometimes you get so utterly charmed by a show they are watching that you set your own DVR to record it. And tell yourself it's just so the kids will have it when they come over, but really, who are you kidding because you just sat down on the couch with a bag of chips and watched the entire marathon Disney had on the other weekend in one sitting and there are absolutely no children in your house with you? Like that. Alex is my absolute favorite, and I also adore the Alex and Justin dynamic. And I can't believe I'm about to say this because 99 percent of the time incest is the hardest squick I have, but if you do want to go to the incest place....I'm kind of right there with you. Yeah, I blame Disney. I actually have theories on how in their terror of teenage sexuality they ended up accidentally boomeranging around to an unfortunate implication I'm quite certain they weren't going for, but let's just say, if you want to? I'm down. I am also down for any other character(s) or ensemble, because CHARMING, this show. So charming.
Homicide: Life on the Street. My first fandom (though I was too shy to do more than lurk)!! This was, is, and will always remain one of (if not the) my favorite television shows ever. It's brilliant and it's cast is brilliant and back when all I had were episodes taped on VHS from the late night Lifetime airings I watched them so often I wore out the tapes. I fucking love this show. I will love any vid about any aspect of it so much that I will attempt to see if it is possible to ruin a digital file by watching it too much too.
Night Court Okay, so this show started when I was 11 years old and ended the year I gave birth to my son. Granted I was still more on the young adult side of adult when that happened, but Night Court is one of the primary ways I laughed my way through adolescence and out the other side. I even was in the studio audience for one of the tapings (I don't actually remember which episode it was, mostly I remember the excitement and thinking that everyone was so TALL in person). A vid, ANY vid will make me so happy, you don't even know.
WarGames Would you like to vid Global Thermonuclear War? I would LIKE YOU TOO. Except you should probably not accidentally start WWIII while you are at it. I mean, you could if you wanted to, but then I wouldn't get to watch your vid on festivids morning because I suspect nuclear fallout would interfere with the schedule. Though maybe not, because our festivids mods are pretty rocking and if anyone could keep golive on time in the face of a nuclear winter, it is them. But lets not chance it, okay? How about we just stick with adorable baby Matthew Broderick hacking 80s style and falling in love with Ally Sheedy while making sure we all know that Nuclear War Is Bad because the Russians love their children too (not an actual song suggestion, unless you were thinking it in which case I'm sure you could make it work), and look if the urge strikes you, just play tic-tac-toe against yourself for awhile until it passes.
