Spent most of last night watching the news in horror. This...it was just a perfect storm of conditions that collided at precisely the wrong moment to a set a city on fire. I'm just kind of stunned and numb.

We can take some evacuees on our property, particularly people with RVs or who can/want to camp out, but we can also take in at least some who just need somewhere to stay (animals welcome). My sister-in-law has already started to spread that word in Woodland Park in case they get evacuated, but if you know anyone down in the Springs in need of a place to go, please have them contact me. As long as 24 is holding Divide is really unlikely to face evacuation so this is a good place to go right now, if somewhat difficult to get to from the south.

Me, I'm watching and keeping fingers crossed. I don't as of yet know if my surgery has been/will be rescheduled, obviously things are kind of crazy down there right now so I'm just waiting to find out.

Just heard Woodland Park is being evacuated.

My brother's restaurant is there.

Update: So here is the situation. Weather indicates erratic winds will be kicking up this afternoon due to storms. Storms are only a good thing if they drop rain. These will not do much more than sprinkle, but they will kick up the wind and bring possible lightning strikes with them. Neat.

So, since it is exactly that (erratic winds powered by storms) that pushed the fire into the city on the south side yesterday afternoon (which they are still dealing with), they have chosen to evacuate Woodland Park (pre-evac in some areas, don't pay attention to the map on that...it's wrong, everything east of 67 should at least be in gold, and some of it in blue by way of what we're being told by officials). That doesn't mean the fire will make a run into WP, just that it might and they aren't taking chances after yesterday.

We have evacuees up with us now in the guest house and camping on the property. Fuck this fire so hard.

So, from what I can tell they've got really solid lines and control along 24 and on the northwest side of the fire. This is good news, though the evacuations remain in place.
