I still have not watched last night's TW, on account of I had a surprise day out. It shouldn't have been a surprise, considering my father mentioned last weekend he was flying in to visit. And the multiple emails I have read giving the exact details of that visit. But it was considering I completely forgot what day and what week it would be So the 'I'm in Chicago now, see you in a few' phone call? Bit of a shock. A good shock.

So, I am now officially licensed to drive again, woo! This was sort of a freaky process since I haven't actually been behind the wheel of a car in two years, and I hadn't actually planned on taking a driving test, so I didn't even drive around a bit first for a refresher or anything. Nope, first time I put my foot on the gas pedal in two years is with an examiner sitting in the passenger seat staring at me. Oddly, the panic zoomed right into numb, which helped a lot. I even did the backing up fifty feet thing without hitting the cones...which, honestly? I doubt my ability on under the best of circumstances. Perhaps I should always drive terrified. But, yay, license! That's one more step towards the move, since I will need a car to live in the suburbs and a car is rather useless if you can't legally drive it.

Very awesome dinner at the sort of place I don't usually go, in part because of cost, but also because I just...don't do Very Fancy. But the food was fantastic, and I forget how much I enjoy just sort of hanging out with my pops and babbling. I love that I can start talking about this thing I read on wormholes or stuff I saw on the National Geographic channel or randomly rant about government policy and poverty or even start talking about fandom and vidding and the various aspects of subculture and derivitave art and any number of other things and it's not just that he jumps right in because he read that article, or saw that thing, or starts telling me about a book I should totally read about the evolutionary leap to arms and fingers, or can make a joke about the physics stuff I find so fascinating that finishes with "And I can do the math" (that he ended up with a child who is as bad at math as me is sort of a cosmic joke in and of itself) ...it's that I remember that's where it comes from. From him and my mother and the fact that these were our dinner table conversations growing up. I was so lucky. I am so lucky. I got parents who think. About everything. And shared that with us. Lucky, lucky, lucky, LUCKY. Also, a lot of damn fun.

And then I finally got to see Wicked, which I've been wanting to do. Fun! So much fun! And, vitally important to me when I visit the theater, no tall people sitting in front of me. In fact I hit the short people jackpot with two kids in those seats, so I could see everything! So, yes...singing, dancing, flying! Wheeeeee!

Back home for sleep then, where I started my TW torrent, and discovered the notice telling me that the management company that owns my apartment building wants to start showing my place for potential tenants this upcoming week. Which means I have to clean. I have to clean a lot. And my mother and son get in today for more family follies, which means this upcoming week is going to be a bit insane. Leading right into having to find a new apartment, get the car situation sorted, pack and move. All in the next six weeks. meep?
