I suck because I have not yet managed to watch SJA, on account of I got distracted by Guitar Hero again. Today for sure. And randomly, because of the GH playing I have been listening to Aerosmith a lot where I ordinarily wouldn't, and it's sort of crystalized why I just do not particularly care for them. There is a certain amount of ego that is required for good rock and roll. If you don't believe you are hot shit it's kind of hard to sell the attitude that makes it work. The problem with Aerosmith, for me, is that their ego comes across as for more smarmy than bravado to me. It actually kind of creeps me out, and not in the good way. Like that slimy guy who stands too close when he hits on you, with absolute conviction that you'll sleep with him despite the fact that everything about your body language is screaming 'get the fuck away from me'. The Run DMC cover of Walk This Way is, however, pretty much made of awesome.

Why yes, I am going to use the fact that this post is about rock as an excuse to use a Hugh Dillon icon again, because I'm sad like that.

Have been eaten by Wii. Seriously. It's insane.

So, okay Wii Fit? Awesome. I have now worked out three days in row. If you knew how incredibly lazy I am, that would astound you. Seriously, I have never had a piece of excersise equipment that I haven't used once or twice in a week and then shoved in the back of a closet with the intention of, but never actually, pulling it back out. This? I can keep doing. The interactive nature is what keeps me going. It gives you points! And little coins in a piggy bank! And the trainers actually *know* if you stop in the middle of an excericise and scold you (I require scolding). And there are charts and graphs and a calendar marking your progress! This last has led my Wii to finally get a name. It's Ianto, thank you. I am so ridiculously out of shape it isn't funny, but I have done the short run (in place, but whatever) every day. Me. Y'all, I am of the firm belief that one does not run unless someone is chasing you, so even a short run is a huge deal for me. My abs and legs are actually sore in the good way. I'm doing step aerobics on purpose. And the balance games are just fun, even if I fail them miserably. It is becoming clear why I trip over my own feet when walking. So, anyway. Yes. Wii Fit is everything it claims to be. I imagine if you are already in shape it might not be, but for those of us who need a bit of extra encouragement to so much as stand up and walk to the kitchen? This is the thing.

I'm hitting a wall with Guitar Hero. I still can't get past One on medium. I also can't even play the easiest song on hard. The blue button is difficult enough, the orange button is a nightmare. I've let it go for now, and am just working on getting my scores as high as I can on the songs I can play, occasionally dropping back down to easy to try for perfect scores. There's no way I'm not going to keep playing, though, since I have gone from close to two packs of smokes a day prior to purchase to less than half a pack a day since I started playing. In terms of health bonus, Guitar Hero has almost been as good for me as the Wii Fit.

The downside is that I haven't done anything else since bringing this home. Haven't watched any new tv, haven't been out of the house, am way behind on Livejournal and the internets, and really, really haven't touched a vid. This week will be about trying to find some balance while keeping the benefits.

I feel the need for some fannishness in my obsessive playing with my new toy. In honor of the new Torchwood I still haven't listened to yet, I'm going to ponder what would happen if Guitar Hero mysteriously appeared at the Hub (pre season finale). And if you're bored, please join me in ranking who you think would have the highest scores and why. Mine from lowest to highest goes like this

Torchwood rocks! )

Okay, so the story of my Wii. Which is really the story of how you should not let your car end up illegal, and how [livejournal.com profile] vagabondage is awesome. See, although I've had the car for the last few months it has still been under my mother's name. The plan was for me to get my own insurance and have the registration and title transferred over before it expired in MD. That...didn't happen, so I've been sitting around with my car illegal since the 1st. [livejournal.com profile] vagabondage came to the rescue and drove me around getting it all taken care of yesterday. Yay, legal car!

So, anyway as we're driving we see a Best Buy, and since it is further out I cross my fingers and hope maybe they might have a Wii in stock. They didn't. And once again any questions about it's availability were met with unhelpful 'Yeah, good luck with that, you are never getting a Wii, EVER' advice. So I'm all pouty and despondent when I notice a Game Stop in the same strip mall and ask Zen to stop because, hey...couldn't hurt. So I ask the guy if he's got Wiis in stock and he says 'no...' and as I'm turning to walk away all dejected he finishes the sentence with '...but I have a used one'

SCORE! Like I care if it's used as long as it's been tested and all the parts are there and it works (these things all turn out to be true). And also, a bit cheaper this way anyway. This is also the point at which I become utterly financially irresponsible. The plan was to get Guitar Hero for now, since it is the entire reason I was getting a game system to begin with, and Wii Fit next month. But then I start thinking about how rare it's been to see a Wii Fit, and it's almost as bad as the console itself. Which Game Stop Guy confirms by shaking his head at the delivery he got that day. I know that look. I've become intimately familiar with that look in my Wii hunt. Get it now or the odds of finding it again when you want are slim. The sensible thing to do would have been to then wait on Guitar Hero. I am not sensible. Also, GUITAR HERO. Who needs to eat, anyway? Rock and roll will keep me alive.

And, already there are positive benefits, before I even break out the Wii Fit for excercise. One of the reasons I wanted Guitar Hero was to help me quit smoking. Tell you what, without even a plan, I smoked so much less yesterday than I usually do it is kind of astonishing. With both hands busy and an obsessive NEED for a perfect score on a song, hours can go by without me even thinking of smoking. It's sort of awesome. When I get ready to put a formal quit plan in place (soon, I think), this at the top of my coping tools list.

In fannish news, I am planning on watching the new TSCC, I do have the Torchwood radio play downloaded, and the vid I started working on still exist. As soon as I can pull myself away from my shiny new toy, I'll be back on all that stuff :D

Message to [livejournal.com profile] jarrow272: I now have five stars on all the songs on easy level of Guitar Hero III, and perfects on 7 of them. Can play about half the medium level, but the blue button still scares me. Child has moved up to the hard level just to make me look bad. Will be selling an organ in order to buy a used PS2 and this game for myself when I get home. I BLAME YOU!!!!

Message to the rest of my f'list: You may see Guitar Hero sitting on the shelf and think to yourself, "Self, that sure does look like fun...should I try it?" Before you do, ask yourself this: Are you prepared to be up at 4 in the morning playing Sunshine of Your Love for the fiftieth time in a row in a quest to get a PERFECT SCORE on it, dammit, and you having been sitting in the same spot for hours and your hand is cramped and you don't care because this time you will get all the notes even if it kills you? If you have children are you prepared to be utterly humiliated when they kick your ASS while playing on hard while you still quiver in fear of the blue button? Beware my friends, beware.

Now if you'll excuse me I need to try and get further on the medium career level before the child gets home from school so he'll stop laughing at me. I doubt I'll be ready for the really super scary orange button any time soon, but at least I can make a good showing on our next face off with the blue one.

Six minutes. Six minutes. Vividcon sold out in SIX MINUTES. I have never been more relieved to get an attending confirmation. I feel like I should start training my mouse finger for next year now.

I have fallen horribly behind on LJ this weekend because some of my favorite people in the entire universe are in town, which is very yayful, but keeps me away from the internet because of the real life hugging and cuddling and actual talking to people using your voice instead of your typing fingers (I know, weird). Also, I have now played Guitar Hero and am contemplating buying a Playstation just so I can get my own copy. That thing is scarily addicting. The good news is that I am buying the game for my son's birthday when I fly out to DC later this week so I will have many more opportunities to get even more hooked on it.

If anything happened over the last few days I have most likely missed it, due to watching very drunk people lose glowsticks in their cleavage (and people say it's no fun being the sober one in the room, they are wrong...I have so much potential blackmail information right now. So much.) Fill me in. What have you all been up to this weekend?
