It's ten. So I post the results. [livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrain had asked for the episode Blink set to the second verse of the song Parkdale by Metric. I did manage to fill the entire minute of timeline, which was the major goal...so, go me! Probably my biggest frustration this time out was that, right up to the end, I had a really hard time getting a handle on the lyrics and music, I fear I am not smart enough for this song. I did reach a point where I felt like I was at least starting to make sense in my head, but sadly not soon enough to really pull it together, so I can't promise it makes sense anywhere outside outside my head. The silent oboe is strong with this one, however, in keeping with trying to stay positive I will note that I am pleased that I can see and hear where it's off, and given a few days to tighten it down and firm up the visuals I think I could've got it there. Likely, I could've got closer if I didn't keep wandering off during my time limit to watch random bad television and surf the internets. Good to know that not even a deadline can dent my powers of procrastination.

So there we have it. One full minute of timeline in 24 hours. I'm going to try to do that embed thingie after the cut if you'd like to see what resulted. (I've never embedded anything from stage6 before, so please let me know if it doesn't work)

*gulp*...okay, project file set up so the 24 hour countdown on the first vid drabble starts as soon as I hit 'post' here. This would be the part where, if you feel like humoring the psycho, you remind me that the point of these things is not to 'make a vid' so much as it is to get over the fear that paralyzes me from putting anything down on the timeline at all, and to post the unbeta'd results of mad timeline chucking in part to get the hell over myself in terms of being so terrified of what other people will think. Rough ideas are okay for this. They are sort of required. A minute of completely filled in timeline in a day, and a willingness to look dumb in public, is the goal. Period. Anything else is gravy. You all aren't going to be snickering behind your hands about what a complete fraud I am as a vidder if it doesn't turn out very good, because that's not the point. Right?

*breathes into a paper bag and goes to hit post*

See y'all tomorrow at a little after 10 am.

I didn't get a chance to start on the vid drabble projects because I actually left the house. *pauses to let the shock sink in*

It has been an awesome two days. First there was much fun with [livejournal.com profile] taraljc and [livejournal.com profile] pipsqueaky and [livejournal.com profile] aj on New Years Eve rewatching Voyage of the Damned, and Live Free or Die Hard (EXPLOSIONS!), and Hot Fuzz. With snacks! And fannish blather! And then a return to Tara's with Pips today to watch Sarah Jane Adventures. I am a bit wore out by all the not being at home and using vocal cords instead of touch typing to talk to people, but very glad I went.

At some point tomorrow I will finish setting up the project file and start the 24 hour countdown clock on the first insane vid drabble for [livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrain, and hopefully the day after that the one for [livejournal.com profile] nestra. I'm a bit terrified, but the last time I did this it was really good for me, so I'm looking forward to doing it again.

And now I go faceplant on my bed.

Vidlet deadline cancelled on account of extreme hormones. I'll be over there on the couch with a pint of ice cream crying at dog food commercials. *kicks uterus*

Okay, weekend over, time to start on the second one of the vid drabble thingies, this one for [livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrain. I just imported the song into FCP so this is my time marker....so 2 pm (central time) tomorrow, whatever I've managed is uploaded. And...mark.

I'm holding off on starting the deadline for the next vid drabble, first 'cause I have too much other stuff I actually need to get done to carve out obsessive vidding time today, and second because that was freaking *insane* and the thought of doing it three days in a row without break is kind of beyond me. But, it was a really good excercise and very much helped put a crack in my current state of blockedness, so if not tomorrow, then after the weekend I will set the 24 hour start point for [livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrains request.

A little early, but I hit a serious wall which is usually the point at which I either throw to beta or start ripping everything up. And since a beta would defeat the purpose of the challenge, and I don't have enough time to rip it up and start over...the time has come to do what I said I would do. Release what I was able to accomplish in 24 hours from scratch. *gulp*

I'm freaking out more than a little about this. It feels kind of like standing in front of the class in my underwear. On the other hand, I managed to fill a minute in a day...which...I never do. Never have done. And as much as I want to disclaim all over the place about all the things I think are wrong with it, that's still a pretty big accomplishment for me so I'm gonna focus on that. No matter what's wrong with it, it's *there*. Which means I can, if I make myself, fill stuff out enough to get to beta in less time than I thought. So, yay challenge? Any comments are welcome.

Okay, we have a deadline. All three spots taken, and I've sat down to open FCP. So, this is so I do not have any excuses. 5 PM tomorrow the first one goes up, regardless of the state it's in, and if it's not up then I ask you guys to come bitchslap me and remind me that the 24 hour deadline is there for a reason, that this is to see what I can come up with when I stop panicking over every little thing and just go, and that no one expects the Best Vid Evar in a day. At least I hope you don't.

The last time I tried to do an insane vidding thingie I got immediately overwhelmed by the amount of rewatching and converting and sourcing I'd have to do for the number of shows that got requested and ended up never doing any of them. I find myself blocked again, though, and really wanting something to kick start me out of that. This time, however, I'm going to be a little smarter about it and take into account my own laziness and tendency to get overwhelmed easily.

Right now I already have all of season three Doctor Who sitting on my hard drive, converted and ready to go and, since I've been working with it both for the last and current vid, I'm familiar enough with the source to at least have a vague idea of where everything I might need is. So I'm limiting requests to that. I'm also giving myself insane deadlines to force myself to stop overthinking and just get shit on the timeline.

Heres how it works. You give me a song (please be able to either upload or email it to me) and pick *one* verse of that song, then either a character or episode from season 3 of Doctor Who only. I will then vid just that verse, a vid drabble if you will, as best I can, for that character (as they are in season 3) or episode. For now I commit to the first three requests (though if it goes well this time, I might be willing to do more so feel free to ask even if there have already been three). My deadlines for myself are 24 hours per vidlet, starting right after the third request comes in. At the end of 24 hours whatever I've got is what gets uploaded, and I go on to the next one. Even if it sucks.

Request away.
