RAGE, RAGE MOTHERFUCKING RAGE. So I'm watching a local news special on breast cancer, and despite several natural places to mention triple negative...they don't. I'm irritated. And then? Then they are interviewing a nutritionist and for the the first time mention that African American women have a lower incidence but higher mortality rate for breast cancer. And then my head smashes so fucking hard against my desk I may have given myself a concussion, because they stood there going 'we just don't know why, it's a big old mystery, but hey maybe you should lose weight!' And that's it, that's the only factor mentioned, being fat. Seriously. WHAT WHAT WHAT? We do actually have a good idea as to why there is a higher mortality rate, and it's got fuck all to do with broccoli. Triple. Fucking. Negative. SAY IT. It's highly aggressive, and has no targeted therapies. African American women are more likely to have this variant. They are also more likely to be diagnosed at a younger age, and are less likely to have access to medical care...both of which lead to the cancer being discovered at a later stage, the latter of which can lead to under treatment or poor treatment, in addition to the poor prognostic factors of triple fucking negative. Do we know what causes triple negative? Nope. Do we have a good understanding of why it behaves the way it does? Nope. Gee, maybe there should be, I dunno...better research, or workable targeted therapies?

LOSE WEIGHT? OH MY FUCKING GOD.

I do not want to discount the fact that studies have shown that diet and excercise are particularly important in preventing recurrance in triple negative women (but, dude, I have read a lot and I've seen nothing to indicate that it is a major factor in preventing it from occuring in the first place, beyond the general being healthier reduces your risk for cancer in general). But holy jesus fuck to take it entirely out of context like that, and to not even mention triple negative, breast cancer in young women, and access to health care in talking about the higher rate of mortality among African American women is just...I DO NOT EVEN HAVE WORDS. You can do a whole ten minutes on new ultrasound technology but not that? FUCK YOU.

I have been listening to the rest of the program while I type this up. It just ended. Mentions of triple negative at all in that entire hour? None. Not once. Not even a mention in any context. I hate the world right now. I hate it a lot.
