I am actually looking forward to the 30 to 40 percent. I have become heavily invested in my telenovela, primarily because I seem to have fallen in love with the main female lead...and, like, SO MUCH shit is going on with her and I hate when I can't suss out the nuances. Like, I know her dad (she and her son live with her parents) thinks she's a disappointment and is a giant dick about it but I don't really know why. I have what are probably some good guesses based on both contextual clues and having watched troubled parent/child relationships play out enough times in fiction. But I know I'm missing all kinds of complexity.
The learn by listening and matching pictures method Rosetta Stone does is good for developing vocabulary, but not really much else. I'm finding an expanding vocabulary *useful*...but if I was just doing RS I am pretty sure I'd get nowhere in terms of actually acquiring language, unless being able to parrot back phrases and identifying objects is 'language' in any meaningful sense. Imma go with no on that.
