I am going to attempt a fannish post. Since I still haven't watched the last two episodes, I reckon I shall weigh on on Moffat getting tagged as the new show runner.

Ready? OMG YAY! Moffat's episodes have, so far, been some of my favorites and I'm really looking forward to seeing what his era will look like. Will it be different than now? Of course. I don't think that's a bad thing. Constant change is one of the greatest strengths of Doctor Who, and I can see no bad in having yet another dimension added to the greater whole. Doctor Who is dead, long live Doctor Who!

But...wait. I'm a card carrying Angry Feminist. Shouldn't I be upset that Moffat says dumbass shit about women? Well, yes. And I am. But that isn't the same thing as how I judge the show itself and the episodes that air. *insert authorial intent is dead rant number one million and three*. What matters most to me in terms of the shows I choose to watch for entertainment is what's on the screen. It's why I try to avoid behind the scenes meta and actor and writer and producer interviews as much as I possibly can (exceptions made for David Tennant being adorable). The sad fact is that someone can be enlightened, and progressive, and an all around wonderful person and not be able to tell a good story to save their lives. And someone can be an absolute dicksmack and tell a cracking good yarn.

There is an entirely different, and important, conversation to be had about influence and power in media, and encouraging and supporting good progressive artists, and lobbying to find and promote good people who tell good stories over dicksmacks who tell good stories. Yay for that! Wave those angry banners high, I say. And goodness knows, the BBC is in no way immune to needing that conversation or having fans weigh in on it. All I'm saying is that if I turn away from good stories every time the people behind them annoy me, or piss me off, or hold views I find offensive...then I'm kind of left with almost nothing to watch or read.

In conclusion, Orson Scott Card is one of the biggest dicksmacks to ever smack a dick...and Ender's Game is still one of my favorite sci-fi books (where many of the rest of the books in that series fails is not just that they promote repellent views, which they do, but that the storytelling sucks ass). And I enjoy the hell out of Moffat's Who episodes so far. I'd probably have to restrain myself from dumping mashed potatoes on his head if I ever had dinner with him, though.
