Mammogram, breast ultrasound, biopsy, PET/CT scan, breast MRI, bone scan, transvaginal ultrasound, bilateral mastectomy with axillary node dissection, port placement, 4 rounds adriamycin/cytoxan, upper GI ultrasound, 12 rounds taxol, 28 full doses radiation, brain MRI, 5 booster doses of radiation, and more blood draws, urine samples, and physical exams than are countable and after ten months I will officially be done with active treatment in less than 24 hours with the magic NED (no evidence of disease).
Day before Thanksgiving...seems fitting. 'Cause I am. Thankful. Exhausted, scarred, wonky armed, nerve damaged, and a little more than slightly charred, but alive. I am still here and kicking and my plan is to keep on doing just that for a long time yet to come.
There's five years of white knuckling and being monitored left before I can breathe easy, but for today? Today I kicked the shit out of that motherfucker cancer. How ya like me now you evil bastard of a dick disease? Yeah, that's what I thought.
