As surgery approaches it is time to start the most important planning of all. What media I will consume. I figure what I'll need is a mix of things, stuff I have already seen and can fall asleep or not pay as close attention to, and new stuff for when I am alert and bored but still not feeling well.

For when I'm in the hospital itself I'm sticking to the Haven rewatch plan. I think Nathan's FEELINGS are a perfect backdrop to that envirnoment. Also his stupid face. I believe I can take much comfort in knowing that it is a great source of angst to him that he can't feel post-surgical pain and would take mine in a heartbeat.

For coming home, right now I have SG-1 and due South on the list of rewatch material, on account of I haven't done a marathon of either in a good long while.

New stuff is tricky, though. So this is where I ask for your recommendations. Nothing too heavy/violent/depressing I think. And I should probably clarify that I don't include over the top explosions and non-realistic violence of the 'FUCK YEAH, hit him again!' in this category...serious exploration of serious topics in a realistic manner is more what I'm trying to avoid. Things like magic/fantasy elements/things IN SPACE are always a bonus but not a necessity. Movies, live action tv shows, and cartoons or anime are all welcome. Watcha think?

Um...so remember that I wasn't worried about the latest big fire (and I was wrong, there aren't four big wildfires...it's actually eight)? Yeah. Last night when I went to bed they were evacuating people *to* Woodland Park. As of right now they are evacuating people *from* Woodland Park to Divide (which is where I am). It moved that fast. In our direction. It's still at zero containment and they don't expect it to be contained any time soon. When I go outside and look there is essentially a wall of smoke over the ridge and the air is so hazy that it's a little hard to breathe.

I think it is still unlikely it will get this far, but given that I didn't think they'd be evacuating Woodland Park today...um. I'm...just gonna go repack my evacuation bag now.

Fire update. Woodland Park is not actually under evacuation. Parts of it (and surrounding Teller County) are under pre-evacuation warning. But, what happened earlier today is that the wind blew a buttload of smoke in and scared the shit out of everyone (why it was so hazy up here as well) and a lot of people are leaving because it's seriously uncomfortable to breathe.

The danger to where I am is real but uncertain right now, partly because the primary focus of the firefighting right now is to protect immediately endangered structures and homes and not to prevent spread (on account of there...isn't actually much they *can* do to prevent spread at the moment given how volatile it is). This is an issue for us because what's surrounding us and between us and the fire is...well, a shit load of unoccupied forest land that could, depending on what this fire does, catch easily. It is mostly going to depend on what the fire does overnight (and anything that does happen is likely to happen tomorrow, so I'm safe for now, though I'm keeping the news coverage on for updates).

Word on the street is that the fire itself is actually worse than how it is being reported (and it's being reported as pretty damn bad)...so. Also, tomorrow is predicted to be super windy and super hot so that's...not good. Along with some predictions of brief thunderstorms in some areas up where I am...which. You'd think that was good news, but there isn't much moisture expected out of them..and lightning + extremely dry tinderbox conditions...um. The risk of another fire starting is greater than any benefit of a smattering shower of rain.

I'm not worried for the safety of me and mine (including fuzzy and four legged creatures) 'cause regardless we'll have plenty of warning and time to get out if we need to, and it is still very possible that none of this will end up directly affecting us. It is well and truly freaky as fuck around these parts right now, though.
