The good news. Today's hunt found an okay apartment in an okay neighborhood within five minutes of where I want to be and well within my price range. Even better it's a large enough complex that they have several units open, and probably more coming up before I have to move. If nothing else turns up I will not be homeless in six weeks, and will be in an apartment I like well enough. \o/

I would be far more cheerful about this were it not for the HEARTBREAK that occured after. You see, I went and looked at an adorable loft. It is just the right size. And it's not only within a block's walking distance of a bunch of very useful stores (TRADER JOES I HAVE MISSED YOU), it is literally on top of a bakery. The bakery owners and patrons might not appreciate me stumbling downstairs in my jammies waving crumpled bills in my handed grunting 'coffeecoffeedonutcoffee?' but there are mornings I sure would enjoy such a convenience. Best of all? I would be close enough to my [livejournal.com profile] vagabondage that if I wanted to, I could throw a rock and hit her (not that I would want to, but I could). There is not much I do not love about this loft. It's on the slightly higher end of my price range, but I can deal. You might be asking why I did not immediately sign on the dotted line and start the human equivalent of peeing all over it to mark it MINEMINEMINEMINE like I wanted to. Why? NO PARKING. NONE. Not even street parking because it's got a two hour time limit. You could have heard my heart breaking across three states. If you live in Illinois? That high pitched keening wail you heard around 1 pm? THAT WAS ME. But since a major motivation to moving out of the city was having a car again, no parking is a dealbreaker. A heartbreaking deal breaker.

Tomorrow I will be happier that I will almost certainly have an apartment I don't hate, that I would have been thrilled with as recent as yesterday. Today I pout. A lot.
