Finally listened to the Torchwood radio play.
I have been missing Torchwood lately, so I am extremely easy to please right now. Jack! Gwen! Ianto! MARTHA! They said stuff! AWESOME. The plot did it's job well enough to keep me entertained, so call it a win. Also, they reversed the polarity, and that is never not awesome. Character wise it was a big sloppy love letter to me. My OT3, going strong, this time out with plenty of Gwen/Ianto to make me particularly happy. Not to mention the very happy thought that shortly after this the three of them played Ambassador, Wife, and Assistant in a far more, um, relaxed setting. Naked. And there was also plenty of Jack/Martha to make me happy on that front as well, BFFs and 'shippiness.
And..it is the return of Emo Ianto, YAY! I love emo Ianto. I could actually see his face crumpling up with the snot and the tears and that just...you know I adore snarky Ianto and competent Ianto, but my soft spot for emo Ianto is bulletproof. And with this being set so close to Tosh and Owen dying, I totally bought it. I think with Ianto, he just doesn't do grief well. Doesn't deal with it. Goes all efficient and files and stuff, which means when he is confronted with it in ways he can't avoid, BAM...he loses it. Here, he starts out sort of snarky and defiant and doesn't start to really lose it until the thing pretends to be Owen and then Tosh, and you know he hasn't dealt with that at all. Get him all softened up and then move in for the kill with Lisa, and you have yourself one runny snot crumpled face bunny. Also, HIS BIKE HAS A BELL!!!! Excuse me while I draw pink sparkly hearts all over that. A BELL! ::smooshes him:: I think I shall use my emo Ianto icon in honor of this.
And it is okay for him to lose it because Gwen totally had his back. She was rather awesome here in so many ways. Tough as nails, riding to the rescue! And her survivors guilt made me go all sadfaced, and awwwwwwww, Gwen. She just plain rocks, y'all.
Another awwwwwww for Jack and his death issues. I blame
gwyn_r and her vid for this. He's trying to breathe y'all. Between that and his absolutely delightful run on Who this season, I think I may have finally tipped right over the edge into lasting outright Jack love on his own. This next season of TW will be interesting to see if it really is sticking.
So, um, yes...quite enjoyable, and now I want new Torchwood even more.
