Riding the wave of my current affection for Hugh Dillon, I went ahead and watched what's aired of Flashpoint yesterday. It's entertaining, but I'm not really feeling a fannish spark there, at least not yet. I love me some procedurals, and they have gadgets, so I will keep watching, but I wish there was more of a balance between character development and the crisis of the week. I don't really have a sense of Our Team or Our Heroes so much. The first episode gave Eddie a fantastic set up that...sort of hasn't seemed to go anywhere, and the character moments for everyone since then have felt a bit hastily shoved in. There is a lot of potential there and we're only five episodes in, so I have hopes. If nothing else the hostage crisis stuff is a good ride. :)
Every now and then I make a stab at reading comics, on account of I have mad love for superheroes and whatnot, but then I just get overwhelmed and confused and give up. I have been flailing about for an entry that would work for me for awhile now. And then
sisabet says that what I should do is go get Ultimate Spiderman, because she is brilliant, and clearly knows me all too well. So I pick up volume 1 today and...people, OMG. I mean, I knew this from the movies, but Peter Parker was MADE FOR ME. With his dorky loserboy moping, and his floppy hair, and his sulky stomping teenage whangst, and his complete inability to be cool even when rocking the superhero powers...and I just...just. *FLAILS MADLY*
Good god he is adorable. And I had so much damn fun reading. And the Ultimate thing starts over (and if I think too long about the way comics reboot themselves I will get confused again so LALALALALALA), so I didn't get lost or anything. *draws pink sparkly hearts all over it and plans another trip to the bookstore tomorrow to pick up the second volume*
