So it is that month again. The pink one. Fuck pink. But lets talk awareness.

There's a subject I've wanted to post about but held off until I felt I understood the controversy enough to say anything. Mammograms. Specifically the practice of routine screening mammograms, and please note I am not talking about diagnostic or high-risk screening, and neither are the controversial recommendations or studies. Routine screening, the once a year boob squish.

Thing is, there shouldn't be a controversy at all. The science is about as clear as science gets on these things. Routine screening mammograms in women under 50 do not save lives. They just don't. What they do is increase the incidence of unnecessary invasive (and sometimes disfiguring) procedures for no real benefit.

What's hard about this is that it feels like they should. It seems logical, so the debate surrounding it has taken on that on the face of it logic and run with it, claiming the new recommendations that screenings do not begin until 50 are anti-woman when it is the exact opposite.

And I shall explain further under the cut to save your reading list from a wall o text )

The thing about Terra Nova that I just can't get past is the unacknowledged but fundamental flaw in the entire premise of going back to live in the time of the dinosaurs to save humanity. And that is that coming soon to a planet near you? A giant fucking comet which will wipe out most living species on earth and render the environment hostile and near inhabitable. For a really long time. I mean, even if we ignore just how much more volatile past Earth was and how many more massive environmental upheavals there are before you get to modern Earth it is kind of difficult to look past the apocalyptic burning rock from space issue. Humanity couldn't survive that.

So pretty much every time someone trots out the whole 'hope for humanity' justification of the project my reaction is always to stare at the screen and go 'except NOT'

Yes, I do appear to be spamming today. But oh my god I love vidding again. LOVE IT. And I love my OT3 so, so much. Except...I was hoping the shift in focus that allowed me to be all collapsing in a puddle of drool over Li Ann would mitigate my Mac crush some. No, you know what it's done? Make me more sympathetic to his sadface when he thinks he's lost her. Because it's Li Ann and oh my god I would crawl under my covers with a box of tissues and a pint of ice cream and never come out if I was in his shoes. Well, maybe I'd come out for more ice cream. Li Ann is not distracting me from Mac...instead we are bonding over her.

Also, Mac sadface is sadder than crying puppies. He should never be sad. Ever. Please don't make that face, pumpkin. Please...I swear when I get to the next verses you will get your girlfriend back...with bonus added boyfriend! Won't that be nice? You can even shoot stuff, I promise.

...there is no hope for me, is there?
