sdwolfpup being all Spuffy loving lately reminded me that I hadn't caught up with Buffy season 9 in awhile, so I did that yesterday. And can I just say this is my major issue with comics as a format, that I forget. I have the attention span of a gnat, and the gap between new material is just long enough that even the most shocking plot twist will have faded in urgency for me by the time the next one comes out. I have a hard enough time waiting a week in between episodes of television.

I sort of do want to talk about the extended comics canon for Buffy, but I kind of don't even know where to start since I've been following them, but never posting about it...so anything I'd have to say would open a tangent of how I got there and ramble off into 16 posts worth of babbling before rounding back on the initial point.

Also, I am mildly terrified of trying to find Buffy fandom again. 'Cause, like, back in the day that shit got downright vicious and the comics hit on several fandom flashpoints of soreness in multiple places (both shipwise and not) and I can only imagine the shitstorms. Though, maybe it's calmed down since the tv canon is closed? I've noticed older fandoms tend to be a lot more chill, and I really haven't been back in, like, ten years. Like, maybe nowadays Buffy/Angel and Buffy/Spike shippers stand under holiday trees together and sing songs of unity and exchange gifts and say things like 'You know, I could never see it...but your face lights up when you talk about them so I hand painted you this ornament with that scene from Amends on it' and in return the other person is all 'Awww, that is so sweet, here, I made you a diorama of a torn down building with these nekkid Buffy/Spike action figures under the rubble.'

And then everyone has pie. It could happen. I do wonder if current day Buffy fandom even considers the comics part of canon? I do in the sense that I think of them as 'canon plus' maybe. Like, I think 'tv only' is a perfectly valid canon, but that 'tv plus comics' is also. Mixed media like that is tricky.

ANYWAY, if you want to talk Buffy seasons 8 and 9 with me, PLEASE DO. I have a lot of feelings about a lot of things! A LOT OF FEELINGS. And I have pie.
