Serious parts of the discussion aside, there seems to be some confusion as to what exactly Vividcon is and what goes on there. So I thought I'd share my description of what Vividcon is generally like and what happens once you're there in terms of purpose and programming. This is one version, based on my own experiences and from shared conversations about it. It is not intended to be universal:



Vividcon: Hello! I am a convention that takes vids seriously as an artform. My function is to showcase them as such and be a place to talk about them in that framework! (also, there are glowsticks)

VidderA: Why, I am a person who takes vids seriously and would like to watch and talk about them as an artform! And glowsticks. *signs up to attend*

*wavy lines into Vividcon*

Vidshow: *is awesome*

VidderA: Holy crap did you see how that vid used color to shift the emotional tone there?

VidderB: Did I! Also, I thought it was neat what the VJ did there juxtaposing those two vids to highlight her point.

VidderC: There is not nearly enough gay porn in this conversation.

All: LUBE

VidderA: Hey, who wants to join me at that panel about motion as metaphor?

Panel: *causes paper shortage from note taking*

ClubVivid: Hello, you are all taking yourselves way too seriously. Who wants glowsticks?

All: ME! ME! I DO!

Glowsticks: *are waved around in the air like ya just don't care*

Sleep: *may or may not happen*

Vidshows and Panels As Above: *keep happening*

Premieres: *is in a few hours*

VidderA: oh god, I think I'm going to throw up.

VidderB: I have booze? Who wants booze?

All: ME! ME! I DO!

Premieres: *happens*

VidderB: Hey A, I loved what you did with the thing and thing and the other thing. It totally made me think about ducks.

ViderA: NO WAY! I was totally going for ducks there. *explains process*

VidderB: *gets it*

VidderA and VidderB: *make out*

Karaoke: Guys, you are taking yourselves way too seriously again. Also, knock off the PDA. Who wants the microphone?

All: ME! ME! I DO!

VidderA and VidderB: *sing Against All Odds while swaying against eachother*

Audience: *raises lighters*

Booze: *is copious*

Sleep: *is lonely*

Vid Review: *happens*

VidderReviewMod: Let us talk about the vids!

VidderA: Says useful and informative positive stuff

VidderB: Says useful and informative negative crit stuff

VidderC: Says pointless stuff about her cat

VidderD: I am hungover and I hate your vid

Everyone: *is exhausted and a little cranky*

Challenge Vidshow: *challenges*

Auction/Dead Dog: *wraps things up*

VidderA: I feel like a truck ran over me, I have a new mortal enemy, and I am never going to get the glitter out of my underwear. But damn that was kinda awesome!

Hugs: *are exchanged*

Vividcon: *ends*

I have left out the room parties and hallway socialization, but assume that in between all of that stuff there is conversation, food, new and old friends, all talking about everything in the above.

HEE. Approaching a Vividcon attendee somewhere around mid Sunday is like approaching a strange dog. Sure they might leap up and lick your face, but they also might start growling and snap your hand off. USE CAUTION!!! Having a treat in hand is also useful.
