I am about to start filling up my netflix queue. This is VERY STRESSFUL. I have pretty much only used my account to watch things streaming, because I get all overwhelmed by how many choices there are and it feels weirdly more committed to actually order the physical disc of something (I know, I am weird).

Suggestions! Gimme suggestions. Movies, tv shows, whatever...as long as it is out on DVD through Netflix. If you were stuck with no television in an RV what would you want to watch? Go.

Depends on what you're in the mood for. If I'm stressed, I like stuff that's mellow. Big Eden and Imagine Me and You are happy places, as are classic films like The Lady Eve, Bringing Up Baby, or To Have and Have Not.

What do you feel like?

*sigh* I can only imagine. I'd be totally flailing if I were in your shoes.

Well, then, I'll just throw out more of my go-to stuff, and maybe something will appeal to you.

I already mentioned it, but I just rewatched Imagine Me and You the other day and... I love that movie a lot. Leaves me feeling warm and content.

I also rewatched Bride & Prejudice -- Bollywood does Austen -- same director who did Bend It Like Beckham (another movie I love), and some of the same actors.

Have you seen Flight of the Conchords? How about Father Ted? Both of those shows make me laugh like a loon (actually, so does Cold Comfort Farm, which has one of my favorite Ian McKellen roles).

Whale Rider and The Secret of Roan Inish are both awesome movies focusing on strong, brave little girls. *hearts*

Don't know if that helps you at all.

*hugs*

A hilarious and kooky comedy that aired on ABC for two brilliant seasons. It focuses on an awesome research and development team that works at Veridian Dynamics.

Makes choices takes mental effort. I am also spoiled for choice on Netflix. I have a bunch of free time on my hands, and mostly end up refresh LJ and my e-mail before it's effort than picking something to watch. WTH, self?

Robert Altman, The Long Goodbye. Just watched it. Fucking fantastic.

Robert Altman, A Wedding. Hilarious. Shenanigans around a large nouveaux riche wedding.

For comfort, I highly, HIGHLY recommend the David Suchet Poirots. An orderly England where everything is tidy and all murders are solved. We watch these a lot.

All the Astaire/Rogers, just because.

Any GOLD DIGGERS OF movie.
42ND STREET.
THE GREAT RACE. Speaking of comfort movies...
THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD. The real one, thanks. Errol! Olivia!

A guilty, guilty pleasure: SWASHBUCKLER. Robert Shaw as a pirate. Jacqueline Bisset as a sort-of pirate.

You now know far, far too much about my id. I pity you.

Series

MAX HEADROOM!!!!! It is just as good as you remember it.
If you're into that sort of thing, season 1 of PROJECT RUNWAY.
SLINGS AND ARROWS, if you haven't already memorized it. Life, death, love, and the theater. Also Paul Gross.
GOSFORD PARK. More Altman, deconstructing the classic murder mystery with an icepick to the eye.
The 1995 PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. I just rewatched it, and it really is that good.
So bad it's well... bad:
LEGEND OF THE SEEKER. How can you not love a show with leather dildo weapons as canon?

Ooh, I love doing this! I can think of a few things, and have bolded my top choices. I double-checked all the TV ones, but have just assumed the films will be Netflix-able, since they're mostly classics :)

TV:

Sapphire and Steel. Freaky 80s almost-sci-fi starring very pretty people. Weird but wonderful. DO NOT WATCH STORY 2 IN THE DARK I MEAN IT. I'm also selfish, because I have a vague hope that one day, someone will love this series enough to vid it.

The A-Team. This was my 'go to' show when I didn't have a TV connection and wanted the DVD equivalent of channel-hopping. Also, for added weirdness, watch the pilot with a different actor playing Face, then go on to the actual first episode.

The Tudors. Don't imagine it's real history, but man, it's indulgent fun.

Top Gear. Even if you're not into cars, or possibly especially if you're not into cars. If you like just seeing people enjoying what they do, it doesn't get better than this.

Quincy M.E. The least gory autopsy programme, ever. Wonderful mindless entertainment.

New Tricks. This one is slightly random, but I enjoy it. It's a BBC series about 3 'retired' coppers who dig into cold cases. A real shout out that old /= dead.

Film:

(my tastes lean towards the unchallenging, I'm afraid...)

Harvey (because what's not to love about a 6 foot invisible rabbit?)
Singin' in the Rain
The Philadelphia Story
When Harry Met Sally (a personal favourite, and also sets the tone for most modern RomComs)
Bringing up Baby
To Catch a Thief
The Mask of Zorro (DON'T JUDGE ME! It's a very pretty film :))
Monsters Inc.
Cars
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Oooh! Ooh!

Speaking of bad watchable (and very viddable) HBO, try
ROME. The usual: politics and orgies and British actors. What's not to love?

You might consider the classic politics-and-orgies-and-British-actors, namely I, CLAUDIUS. If you turn out to like it, there are something like 13 disks. You'll never feel the same about Patrick Stewart.

I'm sure there are a bazillion but I'm rec'ing one that I wouldn't have watched if not for Netflix. Phoebe in Wonderland. :)

Oh dear. I've been on Netflix a long time and before that I grew up in a remote area with a surprisingly well-stocked video rental place.

For very non-stress choices I recommend the series Pushing Daisies, Warehouse 13 and Eureka. I must also add my love for Imagine Me & You. For sweet and quirky L.A. Story & Creator. Also, Jeffrey. If you give me firmer parameters I can come up with LOADS of recommendations.
