So....the Susan G Komen foundation really sucks, huh.

It's weird, in a way I'm actually kind of glad they pulled this bullshit, because it's causing a lot more people to take a closer look at the pink ribbon empire in general and go...'hey, WAIT a second'

Welcome to the club. Komen has been acting like assholes for years and doing very little (just enough to make the posters look good, really) to actually help either find a cure or to provide assistance for actual breast cancer patients. That they'd pull funding for one of the few things they do contribute to that actual does anything at all is not even remotely surprising, even if it weren't for the anti-choice politics surrounding it. It's a giant pink racket that relies on people not thinking too hard about it.

I mean, who doesn't hate cancer? Everyone hates cancer. Give people a quick and easy way to express that they hate cancer and a vague sense that they are contributing to ending it, and it's a cheap hit of false solidarity. There's a reason 'awareness' is such a big thing with the pink ribbon types. Well, fuck awareness. Fuck pink. And fuck Susan G. Komen.

Can we actually start to do the real work now? Never mind, I'm not that optimistic.

I'm glad Komen is finally getting a very public black eye. I could never support a charity where only 28% of their $300+ million in donations actually goes toward helping women or research. And then a while ago I heard that they were wasting millions of dollars a year suing other charities using the word "cure" because they thought it infringed on their "brand." And now all of this bullshit.

I know nothing about her political leanings, but I have to wonder what Susan Komen, herself, would've thought about all this crap being done in her name.
