ZOMG, I am having a ridiculous amount of fun planning for Hanukkah y'all. I mentioned it's been a looooong time since I've done this, since my early 20s I think (and dear god I'm getting old that my early 20s was a long time ago, but whatever). Just, it's bringing up so many childhood memories that I haven't thought of in so long, and I'm kind of ridiculously excited about having the kids over for it. Hopefully they will not follow the yearly tradition my brothers and I had of coming to blows playing driedel. We got vicious and mean for serious, and somehow missed the part where you're supposed to be charitable at Hanukkah in favor of over the top taunting of whoever lost all their gelt.

The one thing I'm wavering on is the prayers. Like, it would be downright weird to light the candles without the prayers, right. But, this goes back to my feeling hypocritical about doing religious stuff. But then again, the entire holiday is based on the story of an outright religious miracle...so, in a way that horse has left the barn and is happily eating latkes in the pasture, no? I guess I could look at it as part of the story. I will make that decision later, I think.
