Good morning! 24 hours to Festiviiiiiiids!!! Who's excited? I AM EXCITED. And anxious. I barely know what to do with myself, so let us talk about vidding.
A specific danger of vidding, actually. A thing that I suspect has happened to everyone with a timeline and a razor tool at some point. You know this moment. There you are, happily cutting away...clips going down on the timeline and you're hot shit because this is coming together and angels will weep when you have completed this sequence. Down goes the last clip in that section, and you breathe out, sit back and render that shit. You're thinking to yourself as you hit play to watch it back that obviously there will be timing issues you'll need to deal with, or a better clip to find, but you're pretty pleased with yourself.
And then you watch. And discover that, through an unfortunate combination of lyrics with a possible alternate interpretation and the clips you have chosen that you have accidentally turned, like, Captain America into a serial killer (not a real example). This totally happened to me on my festivid in ways I cannot reveal at the moment, but I laughed a lot before fixing it. Because you have to laugh at that point.
Since I cannot talk about my most recent example of this, I am now coming to you for stories of that moment when you unintentionally took a bizarre left turn and ended up with unexpectedly unfortunate implications on your timeline. Because it's funny, and a thing that the world generally never gets to see, on account of once you're done falling off your chair laughing you rip up that moment when your fluffy kittens and hugs vid descended into accidental cannibalism never to speak of it again.

I am excited for tomorrow, I am, but I'm also kind of in a bad head space, because I think my gift vid is terrible (and not just in the way all vidders think their vids are terrible because we're insane) and that my recipient will be really unhappy underneath all the polite thank-yous. I've never felt so bad about a vid before, and I think it's going to be really disappointing for my recipient.

I really, really, really don't think your recipient is going to be disappointed. Even having never seen your vid, I know your skills well enough as a vidder to know for an absolute fact it doesn't suck. It's always frustrating when a vid doesn't come out how you want, but your recipient is going to wake up tomorrow and see their vid and you will have already made their day before they even open it, and it's all gonna be good. I HUG YOU A VERY MUCH LOT, OKAY.

Meanwhile, I'm freaking out because tomorrow is Festivids reveal day and it snuck up on me. Ack.

I also totally left it in the final draft. (But I did laugh when I realized what I'd done.)

More recently, while working on the Surfer Boys In Love vid, I inadvertently made our protagonist look like a kidnapper. Turns out some clips should not be taken out of context. (At least I caught that one before it got to beta...)
