Now that I've had some sleep, the 'shippy rundown. The really 'shippy rundown. All 'ships, and nothing but 'ships under the cut. Serious Business thoughts in last night's post.
Well...almost. Because there's Rhys still. And I love Rhys, and I love Gwen/Rhys, and he makes things tricky. Not completely out of the question, just tricky. But we're going to move past the tricky stuff and assume that all the hard work has been done so that Rhys was not in any way harmed in the making of this post, okay?
WHY HELLO THERE OT3 ONNA SILVER PLATTER.
Starting with Jack/Ianto, because it is the individual 'ship I love best, please allow me to chair dance my approval here. And no, I'm not actually talking about the sweaty naked groping, though that was cute (Naked hide and seek? Which Jack cheats at? Seriously? *pets and draws little sparkly hearts around them*) No, no...what made me really happy? Really, really, really happy? The quiet argument/conversation in the background after Ianto tells Gwen he'll try and talk to Jack. So much information there. From the fact that everyone seems to accept that Ianto is in a position, both professionally and personally, to talk to him like that...to the implication that Jack tells Ianto stuff, talks to him about things he doesn't necessarily tell everyone else that don't include kinky sex toys (and we did get a bit of that last week as well, which also made me happy), and not just that, but also listens sometimes, otherwise there'd be no point to Ianto trying in the first place. And that boys and girls, is what we call intimacy, which is what I was looking for here regardless of the status of the 'romance' part. And I love even more that it is obvious Ianto will do what he feels is right, when he thinks Jack is wrong. I think that's always been a big part of who they are, that Ianto will do an end run around Jack if he thinks it's necessary, and without hesitation...not always for the best, mind, but he's no mindless servant. He just tends to assert himself in ways appropriate to his ninja heritage. And I like that we keep seeing that. You go, pumpkin! I feel much better about them now, whatever it is they are doing.
Also, hi! Can we now put to rest permanently and forever the idea that Ianto is even a little bit shy about sex? Please? Because he might be startled by Gwen's appearance but he's not exactly embarassed here. His primary worry, other than concern for Gwen, seems to be that he's been caught out disheveled and rumpled, not that he had his hand on Jack's cock. Much more 'crap, I bet my shirt is wrinkled, and nobody looks good with their pants around their ankles', than shy wallflower covering up. He's amused by the naked sex parts. Gwen is more freaked out than him here. Which fits perfectly with everything else he's ever said or done regarding his sex life so let us dig a very deep hole in which to bury the fanon Ianto who is a hesitant prude, okay?
Gwen/Ianto? YES, YES, YES, and more YES! Both as given on the show with their stealthy BFF, and partners in crime against Jack vibe...and also, damned if I couldn't ship them and ship them hard with very little motivation. I love them together, I really do. I've been going there ever since Ianto offered his arm to her back in episode 2 of this season and all of this made me ridiculously happy, oh yes it did. In any OT3, I like to have a stable arm of the triangle, the one that is quiet and secure and the place to rest and keep the whole thing from flying right off the rails. Gwen/Ianto is that place for me. When those two start working together, they are in charge, period. Jack's just along for the ride. As it should be. I feel like I should hang my head in 'shipper shame here, because despite Jack/Ianto being my primary 'ship? The Gwen and Ianto bits were my favorite in this particular episode.
Huh, I was gonna say stuff about Jack/Gwen here but it plays too much into my post of last night about the Plot Which Messed With Eunice's Head and Heart, and that's just depressing. Lets just say that although screwed up in many interesting ways, in which neither one comes out looking very good at different points, I like the push/pull here and while the dynamic between them doesn't quite work for me as a solo 'ship, it works very nicely indeed as part of a larger whole.
I tend to OT3 at the drop of a hat, y'all know that about me, especially in response to 'shipwars. But this one? Just made it off the list from OT3 of convenience, designed to reduce temptation to engage in fannish conflict internally or externally, into full blown OT3ing of the YES I AM THERE FOR REAL NOW variety. With a possible OT4 lurking around when I can get the Rhys thing to work. That one is more me handwaving, because I don't quite know where to fit the pieces yet, but it's enough not to harsh my OT3 which I am now desperately in love with.
