I feel the need for some fannishness in my obsessive playing with my new toy. In honor of the new Torchwood I still haven't listened to yet, I'm going to ponder what would happen if Guitar Hero mysteriously appeared at the Hub (pre season finale). And if you're bored, please join me in ranking who you think would have the highest scores and why. Mine from lowest to highest goes like this
In last place, Gwen, but she'd be having the most fun. In fact she'd probably score higher were it not for all the rock poses, arm flourishes, headbanging, and attempts to jump on every chord. She barely even notices her scores at the end of a song because she's laughing too hard. On her next birthday she receives four different copies of Guitar Hero because, when each team member sees it while shopping for her, they all remember this and can't stop smiling.
Jack is not very good at it, but the difference is he wants to be. He gets all serious and concentrated effort face, glowering at every wrong note he hits and after nearly throwing the guitar, having failed out on a song three times in a row, he tries to act all cool and like he would rather supervise than play, like it doesn't really bother him that much. He practices in secret after everyone goes home...and still kind of sucks.
Owen could care less, which is why he breezes through most songs he plays with decent scores, but doesn't play for very long, preferring to stand on the sidelines and make fun of everyone else.
Tosh should score the highest. She's a natural, almost never misses, able to quickly calculate the best time to use her Star Power, picks up on every trick to boost her scores and uses them nearly without effort. There are no dramatic rock poses or headbanging, but she smiles a lot while she's playing...getting into the zone and taking great satisfaction in nailing difficult sections. She does not score the highest, though....because
Ianto. Ianto isn't a natural like Tosh but it doesn't really matter because he already owns Guitar Hero and plays it all the time at home (though he won't admit it, and pretends to be surprised at how well he's doing). After at least a year of methodically going through every song and playing them over and over until he's got it down cold, there's no stopping him. He does flourish and headbang...just not where anyone can see him. Everyone except Owen pretends to believe him that it's beginner's luck, but no one is really fooled. Jack will try to get Ianto to teach him how to play better when they're alone, but that just ends in strip Guitar Hero and the controllers being used for purposes never, ever, intended by the manufacturer.
Now you! How do you think they (or other TW characters) do? I'm trying to figure out what would happen if the Doctor happened along and I honestly have no idea. He could be really, really good at it...or truly awful. I haven't settled, but I'm leaning towards really good because I imagine the more insane sections of some of the songs are a lot like flying the Tardis with the frantic smashing of buttons, though I'm mildly concerned his solution for reaching the orange button would involve his feet.
