Year end vid meme going around which...I'm not going to do because I made a vid, as in singular, this year. People seemed to like it, I had fun making it, and really if you're only going to have one vid in a year Galaxy Quest is not a bad way to go.

I did learn stuff, though. Having now conquered festivids, I know that even a long dry spell has an end, and I will vid again. The Shiny Things Project, even though I never made anything that ended up public was...interesting. I was glad to get more familiar with the effects programs, so that if I do need them I won't be scared to at least try.

But, I also reached an understanding with myself. I'm not a graphic artist, and more importantly, I don't want to be a graphic artist. Fiddling around with the shiny can be fun, but it just doesn't have the same bone deep satisfaction that I get from me and the razor tool and a solid edit...and that is most likely to match what's in my head when the vid comes out. Other people 'see' in swirls and shiny and that's awesome and brilliant. I 'see' in straight cuts and that is also awesome. I will also throw down with anyone who says it's not as challenging or effective a technique, and mostly I'm aiming that at myself and my inferiority complex. Yo, self, a solid sequence of strong straight cuts is nothing to sniff at, so quit being so down on yourself.

I'm entering the new year a lot more confident than I was even a few weeks ago. It's amazing what actually filling up a timeline will do for a person. Now, to keep it going and get some of the backlog of vids on my hard drive on their way. \o/
