I sort of love me right now. Just last week I went through cleaning up all my hard drives, and in the process made sure I had back up files for all my vids in both DVD and .avi format and put them somewhere safe. Which turned out to be really good timing because somewhere between when I went to sleep last night and woke up this morning my vidding drive died. Died deader than a doornail. It won't even turn on. And while it will suck to have to go rerip and convert all my source, the backup means that I will not have to go rebuild any of my vids if an .m2v is ever requested for vidshows or cons or for the eventual DVD I want to put together. \o/
And the almost could have been a massive meltdown moment was also avoided when I realized this meant the project file for the vid I started a few days ago that is already over half done and seems to be breaking my vidblock was gone. Well, take that evil tech gods. Because I set up my auto-save to send the backup saves to a different drive precisely because I have seen this happen to vidders before. And there it is, nice and safe. Now, all the clips have a big red line through them and a warning 'MEDIA OFFLINE', but as soon as the source is replaced I just have to do a media reconnect and it will be back! Auto-save is your FRIEND. I am a little annoyed that I'm going to lose this entire morning to converting because I was sort of on a roll there, but I haven't actually lost it.
These are the things I am focusing on so I don't scream really, really loud.
