Because irony has a very sick sense of humor, the Mac that I vid on chose the day I make a post encouraging people to give vidding a go to...up and die on me. Like, permanently dead. It's been giving me shit for months, what with the random noises and sudden hang times and surprise shutdowns of Final Cut (and let us stop for a moment to kiss the feet of the person who invented the autosave vault), but I was hoping if I just crossed my fingers and wished hard enough it would keep limping along for another year or so. It was not to be. Late last night it shuffled off this mortal coil.
And, much as I love Macs, I just can't afford the cost of one these days. Maybe if my television hadn't also broken recently and I hadn't had to also replace one of my external drives and my cat hadn't gotten sick and I didn't owe my oncologist a small fortune.
But I'm going to call myself lucky, 'cause with a bit of creative budgeting I can pick up a bargain PC, which I'll be doing in the next few days. And if not, I have the laptop which I can install the basics on if need be. I haven't actually vid on a Windows machine in...7 years? So this should be interesting. The one advantage here is that I've always been hella curious about avisynth, so now I finally get to try that out, yay?
I think I'll probably wait until both parts of the two-parter Who have aired and make one vid for them both since it's the same story. Though, I dunno...I may just go ahead and vid at least a snippet and give the not very familiar tools which are about to become my new best friend a whirl.
As long as I don't think too hard about how long it took me to rebuild my music collection after the Great Hard Drive Crash of 08, and how it's all gone again, I'm doing just fine. Fine I tell you.
