What happens when anxiety + dogs + winter meet.

Important information to note: The dogs have an insulated dog house. The dogs also have a favorite spot under the porch away from the elements. The dogs are well aware that my house has heated floors, a jar of dog treats, and an open doggie door policy whether someone is home at the main house or not.

It has been freeze your nose hairs cold around these parts yesterday and today. For Nadia this means showing up on my doorstep and sprawling on the heated floors for most of the day and night. Spot...well, Spot has this insane love of cold and snow that involves flinging herself down in it and rolling around and generally being BFFs with winter. So I did not think twice when she dashed out the door early this morning and didn't come back.

Until it started to get dark. And I started to freak out. Please refer to the first paragraph on why this is utterly ridiculous. Nadia, from her cozy spot on the heated floors, was like 'duuuude, whatever, more warm floor for ME, would you please just relax...and get me a dog treat on your way back into the room?' when I started looking for Spot. Spot was too busy doing whatever she does out in the snow to even respond at all. This is when I made the mistake of going to the Google and typing in 'dogs and cold weather'. Now, if I'd been paying closer attention I would have seen the 'unless they have good shelter, like an insulated dog house' along with the YOUR DOG WILL FREEZE TO DEATH, BAD PERSON, BAD. Also, five seconds of thought would have reminded me that Spot is not exactly shy about requesting my services when she feels she needs them and, y'know, knows where my house is.

So of course I go barreling outside doing the panicked doggie call at the top of my lungs with visions of dogsicle in my head (Nadia: OMG I'm trying to *sleep* here, lady) until Spot finally comes trotting along looking very confused, and annoyed (I think she may have been napping under the porch given the direction she came from). And not the least bit frostbitten or otherwise on death's frozen door. Well, but then she remembered that there are TREATS IN THAT HOUSE, and was like 'I suppose I could do with some warm floors' and came in (Nadia: goddamnit, now I have to share? grrrrrrowl...MY BIT OF FLOOR, MINE, GET YOUR OWN SPOT).

So I now have one annoyed and one baffled doggie hanging out in my house.
