Just watched the first episode of Almost Human and I'm in! The thing is, angsty manpain is sort of a hit or miss proposition with me. I am as likely to wander away bored as I am to care at all when it is the basis for a show. But, when it does connect I tend to go into FEELINGS mode, which is the key to successfully hooking me into any show. And, honestly, I went into this predisposed to have feelings about Karl Urban's face. They didn't actually have to do much other than have him show up to push my buttons and add his character to the 'broken boys that are mine' pile. Throw in a sentient robot with feelings (and, no, it does not hurt in the slightest that Michael Ealy is hot...sue me, I'm shallow), a buddy cop vibe, a vaguely dystopicish future with flashy tech, shit that goes boom, and Lili Taylor? Yup, yup. You have my attention.

I will be deeply disappointed in fandom if there is not so much robot porn that comes out of this.

On to catching up with the episodes that have aired. I am having a horrible time keeping up with shows right now, so I suspect after that I'll end up saving up the rest of the season to watch in one chunk, but I will definitely be watching.

I was definitely predisposed to like it, too (it seems like I waited for it for-freaking-ever!), but it's already surpassed my expectations by a *lot*. Pretty cool.

IKR? Based on the trailers, I didn't expect anything so complex as robotic exsistential angst, and it isn't usually done this well (my litmus tests are Blade Runner and Data in Next Gen, and those were decades ago). I love their futuristic tech, too, especially because so much of it comes from lawless factions trying to foil cops. It's just so cool. And the partner-buddy snark is awesome. <3

Yes, I love that aspect, too! And there's even a plausable explanation for why he doesn't want to totally integrate with his synthetic leg. Something about the situation reminds me of Ripley recoiling from Bishop in Aliens -- sort of, I-don't-want-any-part-of-that-shit-that-hurt-me.

Hooray!!! I am loving it SO MUCH! It is definitely my second favorite new show this year--but that's a very strong second place (behind Sleepy Hollow--you are watching Sleepy Hollow, right?).

I literally just posted to Facebook about how people need to talk to me about HOW AWESOME IS THIS SHOOOOOOOOOW. And you pretty much nailed all the reasons it is awesome. The character development so far is sooooooo good. The interaction between the two lead characters is just fantastic and it is such a pleasure and a joy to watch. I am excited to see how the relationship develops. And so many fun innuendos courtesy of Michael Early's character LOL ("I can stick it someplace else"?) I am also very much interested in the world they've built and seeing how they expand on it.

I am insanely curious to know more about Dorian though -- like -- where does he go when he's off duty? Does he sleep or recharge? How? What is his life like when he's not at work. I'm hoping they'll give us some answers later in the season.

And Michael Early is very pretty . . . but Karl Urban is my jam apparently. And I've been like "no, he looks like an AARDVARK" but now he has aged a bit and looks all grizzled and slightly world weary and it's like INSTANT CRACK TO ME. Plus the leather jacket hello I want to do bad things with him.

But mmmmm yes SOOOOO GOOOOD.

If for some reason you're interested in seeing more Michael Ealy, he did a cop show called Common Law a year or two ago, in which he and his partner (Warren Kole) didn't get along, so their captain sent them to couples counseling. I really enjoyed it and was sad it only lasted one season.

I've loved Karl Urban for years, too. His face just gets better with age. Between him on Almost Human and Craig Parker (Haldir) showing up on Sleepy Hollow, I've been feeling pretty catered-to by casting directors. *g*
