I am so never going to catch up on LJ. I am also not going to be recovered enough from travel for any sort of proper Torchwood episode posts this week. So we will go with the much squeeing of my reaction to certain parts of Reset
SQUEE, SQUEE, SQUEE, MARTHA OMG SQUEE. MARTHA I LOVE YOU HOW ARE YOU SO AWESOME SQUEE, SQUEE, SQUEE. Oh my god, you guys she was gorgeous and brilliant and I love how close she and Jack are. I have MISSED MARTHA. And here she is. And she is so confident and sparkly and competent and just...I LOVE HER SO MUCH. SQUEE, SQUEE, SQUEE, SQUEE. FLAIL FLAIL FLAIL FLAIL SQUEE FLAIL SQUEE FLAIL FLAIL SQUEE. AND SHE WORKS FOR UNIT BECAUSE THIS SHOW LOVES ME PERSONALLY. And I adore that the people around her here recognize her awesome. I adore the way she interacted with the whole team. I dunno, I'm not getting a Mary Sue vibe here at all to their reactions at all. This could be because I'm blinded by my all encompassing love of teh Martha...but it was more...just that the things that draw me to her also drew them. The warmth and the humor and the way she's quick on her feet and with her brain. She just makes me smile and I don't have trouble believing other people would react to her that way either. SQUEE, SQUEE, SQUEE, SQUEE, SQUEE. And sometimes she misses the Doctor, BUT SHE GETS OVER IT. I LOVE THAT. I LOVE THAT A LOT. I love that she's not doubting her choice or unhappy with it or thinking of her new life as being a consolation prize or settling. And I equally love that this also doesn't mean she doesn't think about him sometimes, but that she has an utterly healthy attitude towards the whole thing. It doesn't define her, but it helps informs who she is now. Yes, please. This is absolutely the Martha in my head after she walked away, and they put her ON SCREEN. SQUEEEEEE. And further proof that the Doctor really does recognize the awesome is the UNIT business. To me that says way more than if he'd asked her to stay. Asking her to stay would be selfish, and I always liked that he recognized he didn't have the right to do anything but let her go. That he immediately turned around and honored her competence and sacrifice by doing his best to support her new life going forward...man, that pushes my buttons way harder than any traditionally 'shippy type scene ever would. Yup, I'm staying on the Martha/Ten boat for some time to come, I think. Oh, oh, the mention of the boyfriend. I thought that was handled perfectly. It was not a big thing, like, it's okay now because she found proper love. No, she's okay now because she's a KICK ASS UNIT MEDICAL OFFICER. And by the way, she's seeing someone, like ya do. YAY! SQUEE SQUEE SQUEE SQUEE. I am a happy Eunice. For real. And my anticipation for S4 DW just went even higher.
What? Oh, Ianto, pumpkin you know I still love you best when Martha isn't around...but sweetie...it's MARTHA. You were absolutely adorable with her and, yes I'm squeeing about you and Jack and your innovative fun times. I swear I won't forget you. *cuddles Ianto*.
Huh, Owen. I've liked him much better this season. This death has 'not permanent' written all over it, I think...so I'm waiting for the next episodes to decide. If he really is dead for real then I'll have different thoughts than if he's just mostly dead. Thing is, if he comes back I am seeing this as a perfect metaphorical way to deal with the shift in his character for me this season. 'Cause if he dies and comes back then in a way he gets reborn for me and I think it will be much easier for me to move forward with the not hating and not feeling weird about it, because it's a definitive moment to mark a before and after. Is that strange? I think that's strange, but it works for me. And if he's dead for real...I'm not sure. I wish I could say I would miss him, but I...kind of wouldn't at this point though I was moving in that direction (especially with not really Owen from Adam totally softening me up towards him even more). I think the reactions of everyone else on the team are what's going to get me. 'Cause he's important to them. Either way this has potential and I'm looking forward to the fall out.
What's really important thought? MARTHA JONES OMG MARTHA SQUEE, SQUEE, SQUEE. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
