Sleep schedule still all sorts of messed up. Argh. Not much to say about Torchwood last night:
The show is pushing my newfound ability to tolerate/be interested in Owen. This is not to say I disliked this episode, because I didn't. I really liked a lot of it, actually, I'm just...done with the concentrated focus on Owen. Ready for it to be over. I can feel my irritation with him levels starting to rise again (dear previouslies editors, including that scene from the first episode? NOT HELPING), so I require a bit of a back off to keep away from there. I'm a little confused as to why they left him dead, and if this is now going to be his permanent state. Seems rather limiting given the whole, easily damaged, not so easily fixed, problem. I am in wait and see mode on that particular hanging thread.
However, the appropriate levels of squee were reached because I declare this episode WORTH EVERYTHING for two things alone:
1. The look on Ianto's face when Jack suggested Owen learn to make coffee. That was just...FLAILY HANDS OF GLEE. There are so many levels of joy packed into that for me that I could ride the squee wave it induced for a very long time, indeed. DID YOU SEE HIS FACE?
2. Martha Jones. Being, once again, made of awesome. And the kiss she planted on Jack and her reasoning for it? FLAILY HANDS, FLAILY HANDS, MORE FLAILY HANDS!! These are not so much 'shipper hands (though, oh hell yeah I could go there, and have, I love me some companion/companion action), as just...it was a great moment. Which I adored muchly.
So, squee fully intact, but a bit...not quite evenly dispersed? I originally did a double take of WTF?!? at next week's promo, but I have woken up this morning in a weird state of looking forward to that episode. I am not ashamed of the fact that I can be had for the price of really insane crack, and that? Looks full of the crack. Random weird alien pregnancies? Shapeshifters? Wrapped up in a wedding. And Rhys! This has potential.
I also find myself in a weird state of not quite knowing what to do with my batshit Jack/Ianto love. This is why I do not like canon 'ships. Right here. I find myself frustrated with the coy references and refusal to give us any sort of further information on exactly what the hell those two are doing with this. I hate that I am frustrated, because I like to be able to fill in the blanks on my own as a general rule. But as it stands, I don't feel like I know how I should be watching the show (not the fannish part where in my head there are 80's power ballads and such), and it leaves me waiting for a shoe to drop somewhere...one way or the other. And I don't like that feeling. To clarify, I'm actually fine with whatever canon wants to make it. I just wish they would, ya know, make something of it. Because when I still can't decipher what in the hell Ianto means, in canon, by 'we're not like that', and I'm going 'well, okay, but what are you like?'...then it makes it difficult to draw lines in my own head for what's mine and what's theirs. And I like my lines. So that I can color freely outside of them when I want. *headdesks* *kicks canon 'shipping*
Hrmph. Needs more squee. IANTO'S HORRIFIED FACE OVER THE COFFEE. MARTHA AND HER AWESOME SMOOCHING. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! There. I feel better :D
