Now that I am fully awake and done oooohing and aaaaahing at the reveals (some of you are SNEAKY BUGGERS), Imma do some navel gazing about the making of vids, 'cause I couldn't when I was actually, y'know, making them. If you're interested in hearing me ramble, follow behind the cut to find out how nothing lasts forever, unless it is the love between an adorable orphan and her foster father.
Punky Brewster is easy enough to discuss. I knew I was gonna vid it for
sdwolfpup the second I saw it on her requests list. Not only is sdwolfpup awesome and deserving of a vid, and the world was lacking in Punky Brewster vids, but I also have a six year old niece. So, y'know, she needed this show too (the DVDs now belong to her and she is head over heels, watches them all the time). Before rewatching the series, I had vague plans of a fun, poppy, little girl power type thing. And then Henry and Punky MADE ME CRY with their found family bond. Which, given that meant I could play shamelessly on sdwolfpup's new parental status, was even MORE perfect. And then
jackiekjono wrapped everything up in a bow when I was flailing around for a good parent/child type song by pointing to what was not only the perfect choice for the source...but Paul Simon in order to further shamlessly hammer sdwolfpup's buttons. So anyway. Yes. I love
sdwolfpup. I love this show. I loved making this vid. A lot.
And then there is Blade Runner. Y'all, I don't think I can fully express how terrified I was about releasing this vid. A vid for which the answer to the question 'Wait, are you being serious here or ironic?' is..well...yes, yes I am. A vid that can intentionally be read as either deadly serious or over the top ironic or both? To November freaking Rain?!? Risks hitting no marks at all and leaving your audience staring with head cocked to the side going 'What in the FUCK did I just watch?!?' I'm pretty sure there was more than one person who had exactly that reaction, and to you I say I am sorry...we need therapy, this vid and I. Unless the unicorn is really representing Axl Rose's ego, in which case there's no help for either of us.
I actually had more navel gazing and explaining and a tale of stalking
franzeska's journal and how her definition of AWESOME (one that I share) influenced much of this vid, and how
sweetesdrain had a prophetic dream about people vidding Guns N Roses which led her to suggest November Rain when I came back from stalking and declared that this vid was in need of 80's hair metal, and how
absolutedestiny didn't just edit down the (EIGHT MINUTE) song for me but provided kickass beta. Or how
sisabet saved my sanity. Or the bit where I ended up trawling the internet reading various sites in my quest to understand the unicorn and various symbolism and somehow ended up tripping and falling in meta on my timeline in an attempt to make sense of it all while I was simultaneously cracking up. So. Um. I DONT EVEN KNOW YOU GUYS.
