So, the only downside to Festivid assignments excitement is not being able to talk about it! Except we can. I remember doing this the first year and it worked out well, 'cause you get to flail at people while not giving anything away. You just [redact] anything identifying.

So, c'mon! Tell me about your assignments! I will start. I got so excited when I saw my assignment because [redacted] stories are one of my favorite genres and [redacted] is, imo, one of the best examples of it. And on top of that seeing [redacted] as [redacted] has such an incredibly strong [redacted] factor for me that brings up all sorts of FEELINGS. FEELINGS which I can now vid. I swear when I saw [redacted] on the fandom lists I hit offer so fast my mouse pointer spun, and I was looking for it with my fingers crossed when I was reading the dear festividder letters prior to assignments going out, where I may or may not have seen it requested. So you can imagine how exciting it was to get my assignment :D

I am super, super excited to vid [redacted] because I think it's a canon made for vidding - intense emotional content and a lot of [redacted] visuals, so I'm really hoping that people who know the source get the deeper meaning and people new to it will still get the symbolism.

Plus, it's like meeting an old friend - what will I think of it watching [redacted] time later, with different perspective on the subject matter, AND with the theme of my vid in mind? It's exciting and super nervewracking at the same time!

I am so excited! I only offered [redacted] but actually my recipient has requested two other fandoms I could totally do. Choices, for the first time! I think I am going to go with [redacted] because we have the same favourite character and I would love to vid [redacted] an awful lot. [Character] is SO AWESOME and I want to TELL THE WORLD ABOUT IT. :D

And OMG your recipient is going to be so excited that they are getting not just the fandom but the specific character TOO. A character who is, I hear from trusted sources, AWESOME. :D

I was thrilled to match on [redacted], because I've loved it since [redacted]. I love all the characters, and I could go so many different ways: het! slash! threesome! character study of [character]! character study of [other character]! ensemble! Leaning toward ensemble because how cool would that be??? But it all depends on the song.

I need a song that matches the tone of the source but also answers my recipient's request, and although the source is totally [redacted], I'm not having super-great ideas right now. I need like a weekend with me, myself, and iTunes.

Best news: rewatching begins tonight!

YAY, that sounds like such a fabulous match. It is totally frustrating to be lost in song choice, though. I feel your pain. A lot. I got really, really lucky this time in that the absolute perfect song just dropped in my lap within an hour of getting the assignment. But that is not usually how it goes. And sitting with iTunes having song after song not be right is enough to make a person bang their head against a wall. I wish you so much luck in finding the right one as quickly and painlessly as possible.

I am really excited about my assignment it is a (redacted) that I watched with my mom and we both loved it. I got the perfect vid idea shortly after watching it and I love the song with all my heart.

The first and last verse fit perfectly and after rewatching the part I was unsure of last night, I am pretty sure I can shoe horn in the middle bit well enough that it will not completely suck.

Frankly, I was kind of hoping that this was the fandom I would match someone on because I didn't have clear ideas for the others and I have been wanting to make this vid. The focus is not exactly what the recipient was looking for but, my vids tend to shift radically between what was in my head and what ends up on the timeline and I'm sure her preferences will influence clip choices in ways I have not yet sorted out - the way they did with my first festivid for Deejay.

OMG yay! That is amazing, and you get to share it with your mom too!

And yeah, the vid in my head is almost never the vid that ends up on the timeline. Just...be flexible and it will come together. Also, since you clearly love the source a lot it's going to shine through and you and your recipient will share that and they will love your vid because of it.

My perfect song turned out not to be perfect. this is yet another case of plot happening in my head and not on the screen. After 36 hours of total panic meltdown, I now have a new perfect song.

I am not formally participating in festivids, just reading people's letters and attendant squee. There was one--by [redacted] in fact--requesting a vid about [character X] doing that thing s/he does, that I said I HAVE THAT VID BUNNY, I'VE HAD THAT VIDBUNNY FOR [redacted] YEARS so you know I don't even have to go song-hunting. I could just realize the dream.

There's another one I want to make, that was on [redacted]'s request list last year, and I don't think s/he's posted a new letter yet.

ugh phone's textbox char limit much lower than dw's. anyway, I can't remember if I posted about the idea after last year or kept it under my but it would be so cool! if I haven't ruined my own surprise. More motion matching rhythm cutting and less story beyond the action than my usual, so a bit of a stretch for my vidding capabilities, and will I have time for it when it turns out I'm also a moron who [redacted]?
