Still working my way through Angel, and I just need to say. Wesley is so FUCKING TRAGIC. Just...Joss has done a lot of terrible awful things, horrible, horrible things to his characters. And it's okay, well, not okay but I consider it the price of admission. But god, somehow what he does to Wesley over the course of his story almost kind of deserves a PAIN category all it's own, and I can't quite put my finger on why it feels different. Just that of all the BtvS/Angelverse stories it's the one that most makes me want to track Joss down and grab him by the collar and start shaking him while screaming, "WHY, YOU SADISTIC BASTARD? WHY?"

Which, given what characters I even love way more than Wesley have gone through...stop and marvel.

Just. So. TRAGIC. God.

I think Wes tended to dial my empathy up to 11 because he was all human, with no supernatural powers or super skills grafted on, so whenever anything horrible happened to him, it was all him. Does that make sense? And when Illyria consumed Fred (the only other all human, IIRC), then appeared as Fred to Wes as he was dying... god, those are still some of the most excruciatingly painful scenes I've ever watched.

That's probably why I adore Lum's vid, So Real, so damn much. Huh.

I hated what they did to Wesley. Another reason why I've not yet viewed the end of Season 5.
