My thoughts on Doctor Who 5x09 -- Cold Blood

OH GOD RORY NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. MOFF WERE YOU NOT PAYING ATTENTION WHEN I SAID "NOT ONE HAIR ON HIS PRECIOUS HEAD?". YOU GET BACK HERE AND FIX THIS RIGHT NOW, MISTER.

::THROWS GIANT TANTRUM::

Okay, okay, okay. ::attempts to take deep breath through runny snot clogged nose::

So, really what this boils down to right now is...do I trust Moffat enough to let him hurt me like this? (BASTARD). And, well, based on the entire rest of the season he has earned that trust from me at this time, since every time I have reflexively flinched, he's managed to go somewhere with the story or characterization that pleased me. And pointless death/angst/woe is not really his thing. There's too much here that makes me think this is part of a larger puzzle.

I can think of several ways to resolve this that I would find acceptable, though some I prefer more than others. My favorite relies on the fact that Rory didn't just die, he was unmade...with heavy emphasis on the way Amy forgot. So, if he can be unmade, he can be REMADE and we can get Rory back. I WANT THIS ONE. I would, though it would involve more runny snotty tears, also accept Amy remembering Rory being vital to the big series arc solution.

But OMG RORY NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. ::breaks down in sobbing tantrum again::

also, the rest of the episode was amazing and I loved it and I love Amy and I love Eleven.

RORY :( :( :( :(

Yeah, out of that scene, the bit that surprised me was that Amy forgot him. I trust that he's going to come back, and I'm interested to see how, but still. Waaaaaaah.

Exactly. And in the mean time, I'm going to write lots of porn. Because that will help the Doctor remember Rory. And all the sex they had.

Yes yes yes, I have to believe that Amy remembering Rory is vital as well, especially given how much of this season has been focused on memory, from Amelia refusing to believe her memories of the Doctor were wrong like her psychiatrists wanted, to the Forget button on the ship, to the Angels being wiped out. But I will be heartbroken all over again if he's still dead by the end of the season. D:

YES, THIS. Though that doesn't make me any sadder at the moment. But I do trust him to work it all out in the end in a satisfying way.

It will all be all right! I truly believe this. Though this is the first episode of this season we didn't immediately rewatch due to Major Upset. :-/

I'm clinging desperately to the hope that Moffat is not actually as big a bastard as I've been proclaiming him all day. And the ring. Eleven's face when he saw the ring still there.

I shrieked on your behalf when I got to Rory's death. Seriously, my first thoughts were "oh god, I bet Eunice is not taking this well."

But the fact that his death is tied to the crack that's the season's Big Bad suggests that he'll be back, I think. The crack isn't just a matter of curiosity or fear anymore: there's something more at stake for both the Doctor and Amy (though Amy doesn't remember it at the moment): Rory, but also the TARDIS itself.
