Greetings from Nebraska! On the road again and now that I'm headed home it's hitting me how much I miss being with my peoples in person, and is it August again yet?
Anyway, playing it smart this time. Left Zen's pretty early, but having accepted that I would absolutely not even be attempting to drive straight through I stopped at rest stops to get out and move and stretch a bit, and though it was still early I started looking for the budget motels as soon as I hit the halfway mark, and am now sprawled out on the bed watching mindless tv and surfing the internet.
Part of me feels this is wasteful, surely I have more hours of driving in me! Isn't it just plain lazy to pull off the road before one is wracked with pain and on the verge of hallucinations? And then I remember the bit where I'm going to have to stop anyway, and splitting the trip evenly in half means my body won't hate me nearly as much tomorrow when I get home.
Also, internet! And since I'm still not sure if I'll have internet when I get home (OH GOD, PLEASE LET THERE BE INTERNET. FINALLY) I'm not quite ready to give up one more night of being able to randomly look at kitten pictures or whatever just because I want to.
So, yes. Nebraska.

Hilariously, a lot of the tip lists for motorcycling long distances specifically mention "if you're not sure if you should pull off the road for the night, DO IT NOW" because apparently inability to make decisions is a symptom of fatigue.
Being safe is good!

Also, rest stops, useful for resting. WHO KNEW. I always thought they were kind of pointless except if you needed to pee since you were sitting the whole time you drove. I have now discovere if you use them to stop and rest from driving you actually feel refreshed. IT IS AMAZING.
